MTSU –
Judging the Homecoming Show
Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Office of Greek Life sought consistency and uniformity in judging for its annual fall homecoming step show. The NSSA conducted a “Step Show Judging Fundamental” workshop for the Greek Council step team members (and judging candidates) several weeks prior to the step show event – to details NSSA rules and scoring. The NSSA then provided full service judging (judge selection, judging management of show, |
|
auditing) for the MTSU show. The NSSA has worked with MTSU judging the homecoming step show event for the past three years.

Johnson &
Johnson – Kicking off a Sales Meeting, with Stepping
In 2011, Johnson and Johnson sought a unique
way to kick off a pharmaceutical sales meeting for a
new product launch at a resort event in Florida. The
marketing team sought a theme around “power.” Two
NSSA Certified Instructors developed a 6-minute
routine that integrated the product and the power
theme. |
Over a
3-day weekend (in Florida) the NSSA instructors
taught a group of 10 locally recruited steppers the
corporate-themed routine. This 12 member step team –
consisting of the NSSA instructors and the local
step team talent – performed the 6 minute routine in
front of over 2,000 Johnson & Johnson sales reps and
Senior Management to open up the Sales Meeting to a
rousing success. |

Enhancing Sprite Step Off II (2011)
Judging Process and Event Protocol
In 2011, the Coca-Cola Company sought the
NSSA’s expertise to manage the judging and
auditing for the 2nd year of the Sprite Step
Off national championship collegiate
stepping series. The NSSA held the “Step
Show Judging Fundamentals” workshop in each
of the regional qualifying sites (such as
Charlotte, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles,
and New York) for the Sprite regional events
for the NPHC members recruited to judge at
the local level. The NSSA then provided full
service judging services (judge vetting,
judging management, score auditing) for the
regional shows and the May 2011 national
championship event in Washington, DC. |

Cracker Barrel
Step Clinic at the Tom Joyner Family
Reunion Weekend
Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores sought a
way to connect with consumers and their
children as part of their sponsorship of the
Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion Weekend
in Orlando, Florida. By working with the
NSSA Cracker Barrel was able to host a one
day “Step Camp” for youth and the following
day sponsor an exhibition step show. The
NSSA recruited step teams (youth and Greek)
for the step show exhibition as well as
staffed the step camp with seven certified
step instructors. |
